What is an Indian Police Clearance Certificate?

A ‘Police Clearance Certificate’ is a document issued by the District Superintendent of Indian Police to an applicant, which certifies the following:

  • That the applicant is a citizen of India
  • That the applicant is indeed the person whose photograph has been affixed on the Indian PCC application form.
  • That the applicant has not been involved in any criminal case and that there is no criminal case pending against him /her in the court of law as per district police records.
  • That the applicant has not come to any adverse notice, which would render him/her ineligible for the grant of visa/immigration.

Who needs an Indian PCC?

An India-issued PCC is needed by all Indian citizens who apply for a visa for visiting/ emigrating to a foreign country. The PCC has to be produced before the concerned embassy/consulate alongwith the valid Indian passport and other necessary documents. The PCC may also be needed by Indian citizens living/working abroad who wish to apply for foreign citizenship or for permanent resident status in a foreign country.

Who can issue the Indian PCC?

The District Superintendent of Police of the district of which the applicant is a permanent resident, is authorized to issue the PCC.

How to apply for the Indian PCC?

To apply for a Police Clearance Certificate, the applicant is required to fill an application form that is available free of cost at the Security Branch, District Police Office, Police Lines Narnaul City. The duly filled-in application form may be submitted personally or through a representative (having an authority letter duly signed by the applicant).

Indian PCC Fee

An all-inclusive fee of Rs.300/- has to be deposited with Incharge Security Branch against proper receipt. A copy of this receipt must be attached with the application form.

Required documents for India-issued PCC

The following documents must be attached alongwith the application form:

  • Copy of valid Indian Passport
  • Copy of any of the following documents as proof of residence (if the applicant's present address is not the same as that mentioned in the valid passport)
  • Two copies of latest passport size photograph in addition to one affixed on the application form

Getting Indian PCC in Beijing

  1. Documents required
  2. Current Passport.
  3. Photocopies of first page, last page of passport and valid Resident Permit/Visa page.
  4. Fill PCC form at the link : - https://embassy.passportindia.gov.in and bring hard copy of it.
  5. Photographs-3 (White background of 5x5 cm size)
  6. Employer letter (latest in English) mentioning offer details, with passport No and present residential address. For address proof - registration slip issued by local PSB for other cases.
  7. Fee: RMB 191.00 (in cash).
  8. Collection of fee/documents, Time – 09.00 to 11.00 hrs & Delivery of consular services - 4 to 5 PM on any working days.
  9. All original documents (including passport) are to be submitted for verification and returned.

Note: PCC will be issued only after receipt of fresh Police Verification on the PCC application from the relevant Police authorities in India. The Embassy would communicate to the applicant once the clearance is received and PCC is ready to be issued. Applicants are advised to apply for PCC well ahead of time as issue of PCC would only be done after due Police verification in accordance with revised instructions in this regard.
